Star Wars Outlaws is back in the spotlight with major announcements that could bring new life to Ubisoft’s open-world adventure. A free demo is now available, the second story pack arrives next month, and the game is heading to Nintendo’s next console later this year.

Free Demo Available Now

Players curious about Star Wars Outlaws can now try before they buy. Ubisoft has released a free three-hour demo across all major platforms – Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC through Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games Store, and Steam.

The demo lets players explore the iconic desert planet Tatooine as scoundrel Kay Vess and her companion Nix. Players can engage in combat, fly spacecraft, play the card game Sabacc, and begin recruiting a mercenary to their crew. This gives newcomers a taste of the game’s core features without commitment, though progress won’t carry over to the full game if purchased.

“A Pirate’s Fortune” DLC Arrives May 15

The second story pack for Star Wars Outlaws, titled “A Pirate’s Fortune,” launches on May 15, 2025. This paid expansion continues Kay Vess’s adventures with an exciting new ally – fan-favorite pirate Hondo Ohnaka from the animated Star Wars series.

The DLC follows Kay and Nix as they team up with Hondo to search for lost treasures, facing off against villain Stinger Tash and her Rokana Raiders while exploring the dangerous Khepi Tomb. The expansion also introduces the Miyuki Trade League, offering new smuggling opportunities and rewards for Kay’s ship, the Trailblazer.

Players must complete the main story of Star Wars Outlaws to access the new content. The DLC comes free with the Season Pass or can be purchased separately.

Switch 2 Release Confirmed

Star Wars Outlaws will expand to Nintendo’s upcoming console on September 4, 2025. This follows the Switch 2’s launch, making it one of the early major third-party titles for the new platform.

Free Update with Bonus Content

All players will receive free cosmetic items inspired by the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew series in a title update launching alongside “A Pirate’s Fortune.” These items will appear in the delivery crate aboard Kay’s ship after installing the update.

Ultimate and Deluxe Edition owners will also receive additional Naboo Nobility and Desert Nomad cosmetic packs with the release of the DLC.

Game Improvements Since Launch

Star Wars Outlaws launched in August 2024 with reportedly lower-than-expected sales. Since then, Ubisoft has released updates addressing technical issues and refining gameplay elements that received criticism, particularly the stealth mechanics.

The free demo gives potential players a chance to experience these improvements firsthand, potentially attracting those who were hesitant about purchasing the game at launch.

This marks the game’s second story expansion, following the “Wild Card” DLC released in November 2024, which featured smuggler Lando Calrissian.

As Ubisoft continues to support Star Wars Outlaws with new content and platforms, the game seeks to carve out its unique space in Star Wars gaming as an adventure focused not on Jedi or massive battles, but on the galaxy’s criminal underworld during the period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
