The April 17th update for Marvel Rivals brings several new features to the free-to-play hero shooter. Players can now customize costume colors, purchase two new character skins, and benefit from various bug fixes. PC gamers also get enhanced immersion through Razer technology integration.

Color Customization Takes Center Stage

The most significant addition is the costume color customization system. Players can now change colors on certain costumes, adding a new level of personalization. The feature launched April 17th at 2 AM PDT and requires a new currency called “Unstable Molecules.”

Currently, each color option costs 600 Unstable Molecules, which can only be obtained by converting the premium currency “Lattice” at a 1:1 ratio. NetEase has confirmed that additional ways to earn Unstable Molecules will arrive in Season 3.

Only four “Chroma” skins can currently be customized:

  • Magik’s Rosy Resilience (Punkchild skin)
  • Psylocke’s Phantom Purple (Vengeance skin)
  • Luna Snow’s Plasma Pulse (Mirae 2099 skin)
  • Winter Soldier’s Winter’s Wrath (Blood Soldier skin)

Players must own these base costumes before purchasing color options. Once bought, colors can be freely switched in the Costumes interface, and the customizations will affect Intro Animations, MVP screens, and Emotes.

Two New Character Skins Available

Two new skin bundles were added to the in-game store on April 17th at 7 PM PDT:

  1. Doctor Strange – Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Bundle: This skin draws inspiration from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, presenting Doctor Strange with zombie-like features and a distinctive red and blue color scheme.
  2. Peni Parker – Yatsukahagi Bundle: While specific details aren’t fully described in official communications.

  • Wolverine received two fixes: one ensuring his Ultimate Ability properly completes even in poor network conditions, and another resolving directional control problems during “Fastball Special” after multiple uses.
  • Hulk’s transformation visual glitch in terrain kill zones has been fixed.
  • The Thing’s ability icon in KO Prompts now correctly displays when his Ultimate Ability causes terrain kills.
  • Adam Warlock can no longer accidentally resurrect teammates in out-of-play areas on Spider-Islands.

General fixes include correcting camera perspective issues after respawning, resolving errors with importing reticle settings, and fixing terrain problems that could trap characters in certain areas.

PC Enhancement Through Razer Integration

PC players with compatible hardware can now enjoy:

  • Razer Chroma RGB lighting technology: Synchronizes in-game events with lighting effects on Razer peripherals.
  • Razer Sensa HD Haptics: Provides over 600 distinct haptic effects matching in-game actions like character transformations, projectile impacts, and spell casting.

These features must be enabled through experimental settings in the Marvel Launcher and require external Razer equipment.

The April 17th update was applied without server downtime, allowing players to jump straight into the action once the update finished downloading.
