Nintendo Switch 2 · PS5 · Xbox Series X|S · PC — November 3, 2026
City-Wide Carnage.
Now in Unreal Engine 5.
Atari, Pipeworks, and Toho International have officially confirmed Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered — a ground-up rebuild of the beloved 2002 kaiju arena brawler, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 with 4K performance and 99% mechanical fidelity. It arrives November 3, 2026. If you’ve been waiting for a proper kaiju fighter to land on modern hardware — and you’re not alone in that — the wait is nearly over. The same developer that built the original, Pipeworks, is handling the remaster alongside Atari, the original publisher.

What’s New in the Remaster
The original formula — pick a monster, smash cities, defeat Mechagodzilla — is intact. Here’s what’s been added or rebuilt.
The remaster is built in Unreal Engine 5, with Atari describing it as “a high-fidelity remake” delivering “4K performance and 99% mechanical fidelity.” That last figure matters — the core feel and physics of the original are being preserved, not redesigned. Modern haptic support for compatible controllers is also included. For a deeper look at how modern engines are powering classic revivals, see our coverage of Gothic 1 Remake.
The original 2002 game supported only local multiplayer. The remaster adds online matchmaking for the first time, so kaiju battles no longer require players to be in the same room. Local play remains available. This brings the game in line with online-era expectations across all five platforms.
Battle arenas include fully destructible cities — Tokyo, San Francisco, and others. Buildings can be picked up and thrown at rival monsters; the environment itself is a weapon. The remastered arenas have been rebuilt visually from scratch to match current graphical standards while preserving the original destructibility mechanics.
The original had a fixed unlock order for characters and locations. The remaster replaces this with a streamlined currency-based unlock system — monsters, locations, and gallery items can now be unlocked in any order the player chooses. Progress feels less linear as a result.
Beyond the standard Adventure mode, the remaster includes additional single-player campaigns for each kaiju. Each campaign follows the same premise — a monster breaks free from the Vortaak’s control and fights to defeat the alien threat — but with individual story arcs per titan. This substantially expands single-player content. For context on other big comeback campaigns in gaming, see our piece on God of War: Laufey.
From GameCube to PS5: The Timeline
Over two decades from the original release to the remaster’s launch.
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee releases on Nintendo GameCube in North America, developed by Pipeworks and published by Infogrames (later Atari). The game features 11 playable kaiju total.
The game is ported to Xbox in North America, adding Kiryu (Mechagodzilla 3) to the roster — a character absent from the North American GameCube version.
Pipeworks and Atari release Godzilla: Save the Earth, a direct sequel for PS2 and Xbox, expanding the formula with a larger roster.

“There is a real sense of responsibility that comes with working on Godzilla, especially with a fan-favourite title like Destroy All Monsters Melee. It is only natural that Atari, as the original publisher in 2002, would partner with Pipeworks, the original developer and kaiju experts, to bring their creation back to centre stage — bigger, better and more destructive than ever.”
Mike Mika · Chief Creative Officer, Atari
“Destroy All Monsters Melee was such an important title for the genre, allowing players to destroy the environment around them, even picking up and throwing buildings, while battling as their favourite monster. Our team had the unique opportunity to revisit our work using more modern development tools.”
Lindsay Gupton · CEO, Pipeworks
