Storage Expansion

Xbox Series X|S · Xbox One · PS5 · PS4 — Patch 1.000.008

A decade after its November 10, 2015 launch, Fallout 4 received one of its largest console updates. The Creations storage expansion — first announced alongside the Anniversary Edition in November 2025 and delayed by roughly six months — arrived on all major consoles on May 27, 2026. Console players can now hold far more player-made Creations, with Xbox Series X|S receiving the largest capacity jump in the game’s history.

How We Got Here

November 10, 2015
Fallout 4 launched on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Creation Club — predecessor to the current Creations system — introduced later with tight console storage caps of 1–2 GB.
April 25, 2024
The next-gen update arrived for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, adding 60fps performance mode and 4K quality mode. Console storage limits for Creations remained unchanged at this point.
November 10, 2025
Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition released. The Creations system and Verified Creator Program replaced the old Creation Club. Bethesda announced the storage expansion for consoles — but technical issues delayed delivery.
May 20, 2026
Bethesda posted on social media confirming the Creations storage expansion would arrive on May 27 for all four console platforms, roughly six months after the original target window.
May 27, 2026 — Patch 1.000.008
The update went live. Xbox Series X|S storage rose from 2 GB to up to 100 GB. Xbox One, PS5, and PS4 moved from 1–2 GB to approximately 15–16 GB. See also: Xbox One and PS4 platform changes in 2026.

How to Back Up Your Load Order

Xbox players: the update clears installed Creations on first launch. Back up before or after the patch using the steps below. PS5 players are unaffected — installed Creations are preserved automatically.

1
Open the Creations Menu
From the Fallout 4 main menu, navigate to the Creations section.
2
Go to Load Order
Select Load Order from within the Creations menu to see your full list of installed Creations.
3
Open Load Order Archive
Select the Load Order Archive button to open the cloud save dialogue.
4
Save to Bethesda.net
Choose Save Load Order to Bethesda.net and wait for the process to complete. Your load order is backed up to the cloud.
5
Restore After the Update
After installing the update, return to the same location and choose Restore Load Order from Bethesda.net to pull your list back.

Alternative: load a game save made after November 10, 2025. Players with saves older than that date may encounter issues without completing the backup steps above.
