The first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer continues to shatter records since its December 2023 release. The video has now surpassed 250 million views and collected more than 1 million comments on YouTube, showing just how eager fans are for Rockstar’s next open-world crime adventure.

These impressive numbers were achieved despite Rockstar Games maintaining prolonged silence since the trailer’s debut. Fans have been left hungry for more details about the highly anticipated game as they await additional information.

Release Window and Upcoming Announcements

Rockstar has officially confirmed a Fall 2025 release window for GTA 6 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Many industry watchers and fans are now looking toward Take-Two Interactive’s upcoming earnings call on May 15 as a potential source of more specific release information.

Former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij recently provided some context about how release decisions typically work at the studio. “The decision to delay GTA IV was made 4 months or so before the original release date,” Vermeij explained. “Any further and it’s hard to make the call. Rockstar is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish.”

He added that Rockstar prioritizes quality over deadlines: “GTA VI will sell for 10+ years and there is no competition to worry about. They are not going to release the game until they’re 100% happy with it. No matter what it said in the trailer.”

Following Rockstar’s established pattern with previous releases, PC players will likely need to wait until 2026 for their version of the game.

What We Know So Far

The trailer confirmed several key details about GTA 6:

  • The game features dual protagonists named Lucia and Jason, with Lucia being the series’ first female playable character in a main entry
  • The setting is Leonida, a fictional version of Florida that includes Vice City (Rockstar’s take on Miami)
  • The game world appears to include diverse environments beyond urban areas, with glimpses of rural settings and what looks like Everglades-inspired swampland

Fan Culture and the Wait

As the wait for new information stretches on, fans have developed their own ways of expressing their anticipation and frustration. One popular meme circulating in the community is the “Pope Francis joke,” where fans compare the length of time without GTA 6 updates to historical events—Pope Francis was elected in 2013, highlighting just how long the development and marketing cycle feels to eager players.

Take-Two’s May 15 earnings call has become a focal point for the community. With Rockstar’s parent company scheduled to provide financial updates and outlooks, many hope this will include concrete information about GTA 6’s development progress and perhaps a more specific release date within the Fall 2025 window.

With Take-Two’s other major titles reportedly in the pipeline for 2025, industry watchers are speculating about where GTA 6 might fit in the company’s release calendar. The Fall 2025 window could mean an October or November release, though this remains unconfirmed.

For now, fans continue rewatching the single trailer, analyzing every frame, and waiting for Rockstar’s next move. With the game potentially just over a year away, the unprecedented levels of anticipation suggest GTA 6 could become one of the biggest entertainment releases in history when it finally arrives.
