Pywel’s Biggest Update Yet Is Live

Pearl Abyss shipped Crimson Desert’s largest patch to date on April 23, 2026 — version 1.04.00, weighing in at 37 GB on PC. The extra size comes primarily from a full overhaul of distant scenery rendering, but that’s a small part of what’s here. Difficulty settings, four new housing storage chests, birds and cats as pets, new character skills, combat changes, 13 new tattoos, and a fully revamped inventory system all landed in a single drop. The patch is live now on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Mac receives it at a later date. Here’s what changed, broken down by category — no patch notes scroll required. See our earlier report on what Pearl Abyss had announced ahead of this update.

3 Difficulty Modes
1,000 Gatherables Slots
5+ New Cat Types

Choose Your Challenge: Easy, Normal, or Hard

Difficulty settings were the most requested addition since Crimson Desert launched in March 2026. Patch 1.04.00 delivers three modes — Easy, Normal, and Hard — switchable at any time from Settings → Play. Normal is unchanged from how the game has played until now. Select a mode below to see exactly what each one adjusts.

🛡️Easy
Player takes reduced damage
Enemies have lower maximum health, reduced aggression, and slower speed
Extended timing windows for Parry and Dodge
Bosses attempt to counterattack or escape less often when hit
⚖️Normal
The original game balance from launch — nothing changed
Food effects apply immediately when used in combat
Standard enemy health, speed, and aggression
Default parry and dodge timing windows
💀Hard
Player takes increased damage
Enemies have higher maximum health, increased aggression, and faster speed
Food effects no longer apply instantly — the full consumption animation must complete before healing takes effect
Timing windows for instant counters and dodges are tightened
Some bosses receive new or adjusted attack patterns

Your House Finally Has Room for Everything

Four new purpose-built storage chests have been added to Crimson Desert’s housing system. The biggest change: crafting and refinement materials stored in the Sturdy Gatherables Chest can now be used directly from it — no pulling items into your personal inventory first. House layouts also expand with your Greymane Camp level, adding Compact, Standard, Spacious, and Spacious Pailunese options. Birds, New Cats, and the Abyss Heuklang

Pets, weapons, armor, and cosmetics all received additions in 1.04.00. The official Crimson Desert account on X confirmed the full list on patch day. Tap each entry below to expand the details.

Birds can now be adopted as pets throughout Pywel. You receive the Sotdae of Bond item through a dedicated introductory quest — place food on it to build Trust with your bird. Different bird types favour different food, so the bond requires active feeding to develop over time, not a one-time interaction.
Five new cat pet varieties have been added. A bug that allowed cats to sit on the player’s shoulder indefinitely was fixed — but Pearl Abyss acknowledged that many players had grown fond of the behavior, and responded by adding a dedicated item that lets cats stay on your shoulder for an extended period.
The Abyss Heuklang can now be converted into a personal pet. In addition, both horses and pets can now be renamed — a quality-of-life feature that had been absent from the game since launch.
Damiane receives the Sword of Starlight through a new quest. Kliff and Oongka each gain two new one-handed weapons — Tree Branch and Sturdy Tree Branch — obtained by cutting down trees and bamboo. Kliff also receives a new Baltheon armor outfit. Kuku Flame and Ice armor sets can now be dyed. Additional outfits have been added to select shops, including the Back Alley Shop. 13 new character tattoos have been added. A livestock vendor now sells cows, pigs, goats, sheep, ducks, and chickens directly from NPCs across Pywel. The map now shows more ore deposits and wells, including a new well at Howling Hill. Tumbleweeds appear in desert regions. The cloudcart has been improved to function as a permanent mount.

Boss Immunity Removed — Skills Expanded

Bosses are no longer immune to damage while executing their own powerful attacks — a change that directly affects the rhythm of high-damage encounters. Several playable character skills have also been added or adjusted. Full combat details are in the official 1.04.00 patch notes on the Pearl Abyss website.

Boss Immunity Removed

Bosses are no longer damage-immune during their own powerful attacks. Attack patterns and counterattack frequency for select bosses have also been adjusted.

Force Palm Upgraded

Force Palm Pulse is now chargeable across three damage levels. Force Palm itself executes faster than before.

Kliff: Weapon Throw

Kliff gains a weapon throw skill mapped to shield bash controls. Press the button again or walk near the weapon to recall it.

Damiane & Oongka: Ambush Skill

Both characters now have their own Ambush skill, alongside moves that parallel Kliff’s Focused Force Palm functionality.

Inventory Tabs, Better Distances, and More

The bulk of the 37 GB download comes from improvements to distant object rendering — objects and textures at range now scale in quality with graphics settings. Characters render more crisply at long distances and hair lighting has been improved. A colorblind mode and a larger subtitle size option have also been added.

On the inventory side, items are now organised into five category tabs: All, Documents, Equipment, Food, Materials, and Others. Basic gear items now stack. The minimap gained an NSEW compass and both the map and minimap now display well locations. For shops where maximum Trust has been reached, stock status is now visible directly on the map. A controller preset and keyboard/mouse preset option were also added in this patch.
