Thirteen years after Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag launched in 2013, Ubisoft is bringing Edward Kenway back — rebuilt from scratch. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, developed primarily by Ubisoft Singapore, drops on July 9, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This is a full remake on the latest Anvil engine, not a port or remaster.
If you’ve been keeping up with Sony’s evolving platform strategy — including the shift away from physical discs and the July 2026 PS Plus lineup — Black Flag Resynced arrives as one of the biggest single-player releases of this console generation. Here’s everything confirmed so far, broken down by what actually changed.

Parry-Driven Combat — No More Button Mashing
The core combat loop in Resynced is built around breaking an enemy’s defence rather than trading blows. A timed Perfect Parry triggers a Hidden Blade takedown, and players can chain up to four consecutive takedowns depending on which sword Edward carries. The system pulls directly from mechanics introduced in AC Shadows.
The Rope Dart — originally locked until Sequence 11 in the 2013 game — is now accessible as early as Sequence 3, making it a practical tool throughout the campaign rather than a late-game curiosity.
- Chain Takedowns Up to 4 enemies in sequence via Perfect Parry timing
- Wall Takedown Kick enemies into walls for an instant fatal move
- Pistol Quick Shot Instantly breaks elite enemy guard — works mid-chain
- New Enemy: Demolitionist Launches grenades; can be redirected with Rope Dart
- Weapon-Specific Heavies Rapier pierces, Cutlass hits multiple foes, Pistol-Sword fires two shots
- Rope Dart unlocked earlier Sequence 3 vs. Sequence 11 in the original
Crouch Anywhere — Stealth Gets a Full Rework
Edward can now crouch at any point — including open environments previously restricted — reducing visibility as shown by an on-screen meter. Running directly at an enemy still triggers detection, so slow movement matters in stealth situations. Alarm Bells, scattered across plantations, can be destroyed to stop enemies calling for backup.
Social stealth returns fully: Dancers can be hired to distract guards, money can be thrown to create diversions, crowds of three or more provide passive cover, and Edward can toggle his hood on and off at will. Eavesdropping missions no longer cause immediate desynchronisation if Edward is spotted — a quality-of-life fix from the original.
- Crouch Anywhere Works in any open environment, reduces visibility
- Hood Toggle On/off at any time with no restrictions
- Blowpipe Darts Sleep or Berserk — enemies fight each other on Berserk
- Rope Dart Hang Hang enemies from perches as guard distractions
- Eavesdrop Fix No longer instantly desynchs if spotted mid-mission
- Alarm Bells Destroy them to prevent reinforcement calls
New Blackbeard Quests, a New Endgame Chapter, and One Pet
Resynced adds new narrative content on top of the original story. Lead scriptwriter Darby McDevitt returned to write new material, including a scene that develops Edward’s relationship with his wife Caroline. New dedicated questlines follow fan-favourite characters Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Three new Naval Officers each have their own origin missions tied to the main narrative.
A new endgame chapter titled “A World Without Gold” extends the story past the original’s ending. Additional Animus Rifts are included. The Hideout on Great Inagua has been expanded, with two brand-new buildings: the Fisherman’s Wharf and Treasure Dealer. All 35 original sea shanties return alongside 10 newly produced ones. Photo Mode is new. And yes — Edward can have a pet on the Jackdaw.
- New Blackbeard & Stede Bonnet Quests Dedicated storylines for both characters
- Endgame Chapter “A World Without Gold” — post-story content
- 45 Shanties Total 35 original + 10 newly produced
- Fisherman’s Wharf New Hideout building — new to Resynced
- Treasure Dealer New Hideout building — new to Resynced
- Photo Mode Capture Caribbean moments; tag Ubisoft on release day
Anvil Engine, Ray Tracing, Atmos Weather — and No RPG Stats
Resynced runs on the latest Anvil engine iteration used across Ubisoft’s current lineup. The original game’s baked, static lighting is replaced entirely with dynamic ray-traced global illumination across all graphics modes. On PS5 Pro, the game adds raytraced reflections in Fidelity mode and ships with Enhanced PSSR for higher visual quality at maintained frame rates.
The game also integrates Atmos, the weather simulation system first used in AC Shadows, producing dynamic weather that changes across the day cycle — from clear Caribbean sun to waterspouts, rogue waves, and near-hurricane conditions. No RPG mechanics have been added. Creative Director Paul Fu confirmed Resynced focuses entirely on Edward’s narrative rather than stat-heavy systems.
- Ray-Traced GI All graphics modes — replaces original’s static lighting
- Micropolygon Rendering Higher geometry detail on supported hardware
- Atmos Weather Dynamic system from AC Shadows — rogue waves, waterspouts
- PS5 Pro Enhanced PSSR + raytraced reflections in Fidelity mode
- Dolby Atmos Support Spatial audio confirmed
- No RPG Mechanics Action-adventure focus — confirmed by Director Richard Knight
