War Never Changes — But Your Tabletop Just Did
The Commonwealth Comes to Your Table
While Fallout 5 has no confirmed release date, the franchise is active on tabletop. UK-based publisher Modiphius Entertainment — working under licence from Bethesda — has two major Fallout miniatures releases scheduled for 2026: a new two-player skirmish game called Fallout: Factions and a second edition of the eight-year-old campaign game Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. The Factions starter puts Brotherhood of Steel against the Institute across a Boston battle map. Wasteland Warfare’s new edition is built for solo play — pick it up, run a mission, leave it on the table, come back later. As noted in wider gaming discussions, both titles draw on the Fallout 4 Commonwealth setting at their core.
Fallout: Factions — Battle for Boston
Pick Your Side: Who Controls the Commonwealth?
Fallout: Factions is a two-player skirmish game. The Battle for Boston starter set ships with the Brotherhood of Steel and the Institute ready to fight — but the Minutemen and the Railroad can be added separately. Tap each faction to see how they play.
Brotherhood of Steel
“Ad Victoriam. Power Armour. No Compromise.”
Eight Brotherhood models ship inside the Battle for Boston box — a Knight, a Paladin in power armour, two Field Scribes, and four standard members. On the tabletop, the Brotherhood uses raw military strength and heavy armour to control ground and lock down objectives. The set’s kit is already available as a standalone purchase as well, so veterans can bulk up their roster independently. Their playstyle favours aggressive positioning over subtlety: advance, secure, hold.
The Institute
“Synths, Shadows, and Superior Technology.”
The Institute kit contains the most models ever packed into a single Modiphius plastic set: 12 figures in total — a Courser, an armoured Eradicator, scientists, Infiltrators, Gen-2 Synths, and four Gen-1 Synths. Their key ability, Flush Out, lets them physically move enemy models on a critical hit — shifting opponents off objectives or forcing them into open ground. A Synth Relay Grenade option for the leader allows destroyed Gen-1 units to return to play, keeping constant pressure on the opponent.
The Minutemen
“For the People of the Commonwealth.”
The Minutemen are a separate purchase — available as part of the Battle for Boston Complete Bundle alongside the Railroad, or individually. Ten plastic models per faction box. The Minutemen represent a cooperation-and-defense playstyle, rallying around protecting objectives rather than pure aggression — fitting for fans who watched Preston Garvey defend every last settlement in Fallout 4.
The Railroad
“Synth Liberation. Underground Operations.”
The Railroad Core Box contains ten plastic miniatures and is available as part of the Complete Bundle or separately. On the table, the Railroad operates through stealth, mobility, and disruption — the faction for players who prefer to outmanoeuvre rather than overpower. Ten operatives waging a quiet war against Institute control, adapted from Fallout 4’s underground liberation network.

Early 2027
The Wasteland Compendium
A rules expansion covering all major Fallout regions: New California, the Mojave, the Capital Wasteland, the Commonwealth, and Appalachia. Adds full faction support for Zetans and other warbands not in the core box. Factions and Wasteland Warfare will remain two separate games.
Fallout: Wasteland Warfare — Second Edition
Eight Years Later: A Solo-First Overhaul
Fallout: Wasteland Warfare launched in 2018. The second edition, revealed at the GAMA Expo in March 2026, is built around a “solo-first” philosophy — play a mission, save your progress, come back tomorrow. Here’s what changes in edition two.
Solo & Co-op First
The second edition is designed as a solo campaign experience above everything else. Players build a custom hero, explore a procedurally generated wasteland, recruit a warband, and fight for survival. Co-op play lets a second player join another’s campaign, or two players run a warband together across a shared map. Battle mode (PvP) is still supported.
Smaller Board Size
Modiphius reduced the board footprint based on player feedback. The goal: leave the game set up on a coffee table between sessions. Play for an hour, walk away, come back. The smaller table area fits the solo experience and means fewer players need to tear down between games.
New Plastic Vault Dweller Heroes
The first new miniature releases for the second edition are two multi-part plastic sets — four male Vault Dweller heroes and four female Vault Dweller heroes. Each set has multiple options for armour and weapons. All second-edition models are compatible with existing first-edition Wasteland Warfare miniatures.
Encounter Boxes
Modiphius is adding a new retail format: Encounter Boxes containing pre-assembled PVC models grouped by regional threat or faction. These are intended for players who want to skip assembly and get straight to playing — a lower entry point for those coming to Wasteland Warfare for the first time. The growing range of early-access and starter gaming products across genres reflects the same trend toward accessible entry points.
