Blink, Heal, and Push the Payload — Overwatch Has Arrived in Fortnite

Four Overwatch heroes — Tracer, Mercy, Genji, and D.Va — have dropped into Fortnite Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, and Blitz as part of the Fortnite v40.40 update, live from May 14. This isn’t a skin-only crossover: Blizzard Entertainment confirmed that hero weapons, Overwatch map landmarks, and community-wide Showdown milestones all come with the package. Tracer’s Pulse Pistols and Mercy’s Caduceus Staff are now live in the loot pool, and new Payload push objectives have been added to the Battle Royale island. The collab runs until June 4, 2026.

Tracer DPS
Lena Oxton — offers services on the island

Tracer can be found at Overwatch landmark locations offering services to players. Her signature speed-and-chaos combat style translates directly into a first-person weapon experience — the only hero whose gun shifts your perspective when you fire.

Mercy Support
Dr. Angela Ziegler — offers services on the island

Mercy is stationed at Overwatch landmark locations and offers services to players. Her Caduceus Staff brings a new healing dynamic to Fortnite squad play — sustaining teammates mid-fight while keeping her own mobility intact.

🗡️
Genji DPS
Genji Shimada — recruitable ally

Genji doesn’t offer services — he can be recruited as a combat ally if players know where to find him across the Overwatch landmark locations. His role on the island is active rather than passive.

Overwatch Locations, Now on the Island

Four Overwatch map areas have been added to the Fortnite Battle Royale island in v40.40. Each brings its own layout and character density from the original game.

⛩️
Busan Sanctuary

The Busan temple and garden area, now rebuilt on the Battle Royale island. Tracer and Mercy can be found offering services in zones like this one.
🏯
Hanamura Courtyard
From Overwatch: Hanamura, Japan
The iconic Shimada estate courtyard is live on the island — a mix of close-range sightlines and open areas that plays very differently from standard Fortnite POIs.
🏙️
King’s Row Tower
From Overwatch: King’s Row, London
The Victorian gothic district of King’s Row, with its tower structure, is now a named landmark on the Fortnite island — dense urban cover in every direction.
🛰️
Watchpoint: Gibraltar (Inspired)

Overwatch Porsche Cayenne EV Bundle
A separate cosmetic bundle is available featuring the Porsche Cayenne EV with four custom Overwatch-themed decals and a custom Wheels set. Porsche trademarks are used under license from Porsche AG.

Zero Build Gets Its Biggest Overhaul Yet

The v40.40 update introduced seven major gameplay changes to Zero Build for Chapter 7 Season 2 Act 3. Epic has described these as experimental — how players respond will shape where Zero Build goes in Season 3.

🏃
Infinite Sprint
Stamina bar no longer drains while holding your Pickaxe. Sprint across entire zones without slowing down.
🛡️
Overshield Siphon
Eliminations restore your Overshield. Aggressive play is now directly rewarded in no-build scenarios.
🎒
New Starting Loadout
All players start with a Pistol, a Small Shield Potion, and one Pocket Item equipped — Shockwave Grenade, Med Mist Grenade, or Shield Bubble.
📦
Pocket Items
Unlimited-use utility items with cooldowns, mapped to the old Build button. Swap them at Vending Machines around the map.
🪂
Glider Redeploy
Players can deploy gliders from elevated positions for cleaner rotations mid-game.
🪨
Hardened Structures
Boulders, trees, sheds, and other environmental objects take far less weapon damage — turning natural cover into reliable protection throughout a fight.

Win Rivalries, Unlock Rewards

These rewards are unlocked communally. Win rivalries across the Battle Royale island and the entire player base earns the following items for their Fortnite Lockers. Check the Showdown tab in the main menu to track progress. Tap any row to learn more.

🌀 Overwatch Payload Rift Anomaly Cosmetic / Landmark

🚁 Orca MV-261 Dropship Landmark Landmark
A dropship-style landmark unlocked as a community milestone reward. Added to the Battle Royale island once the rivalry win threshold is reached by the collective player base.
📦 Overwatch Cache Chests Loot
Overwatch-branded chest variants added to the loot pool across the island. These replace standard chests in certain areas once unlocked through community Showdown milestones.
🦸 Hero Cache Chests Loot
Hero-themed chest variants that enter the loot pool as a separate milestone unlock from the standard Overwatch Cache Chests. Both chest types are community-earned, not individually purchased.
🎨 Overwatch Mercy’s Crest Spray Spray

🎨 Overwatch Emblem Spray Spray

The Fortnite × Overwatch collaboration, covered here, was the headline addition of the Fortnite v40.40 update on May 14, 2026. Four heroes — Tracer, Mercy, Genji, and D.Va — were covered as arriving in Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, and Blitz, with Overwatch-sourced weapons entering the loot pool and four named Overwatch landmarks placed on the island. Community Showdown milestones and the Porsche Cayenne EV bundle were also part of the release. Outfits and the Item Shop window were covered as running through June 4.

The Zero Build overhaul — seven experimental gameplay changes including infinite sprint with pickaxe, overshield siphon, pocket items, and a new starting loadout — was covered as a separate but simultaneous addition introduced alongside the crossover for Chapter 7 Season 2 Act 3. Fortnite is free to play and available via the Epic Games Store and other platforms. For ongoing Fortnite and gaming coverage, see the latest Game Tribune reports.
