The Jackdaw Sets Sail Again — July 9, 2026

Nearly thirteen years after Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag first put players at the helm of the Jackdaw, Ubisoft is bringing Edward Kenway back — fully remade. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced has a reported launch date of July 9, 2026. The game was presented to select media and content creators on April 16, 2026, in a roughly 30-minute session, though Ubisoft’s wider public announcement was pushed to the following week. One thing the session made very clear: this is not an RPG.

Same Pirate. Completely Reworked.

Black Flag Resynced is a full remake — not a remaster — of the 2013 original. According to the April 16 presentation, the game has been completely reworked with new content and updates throughout. Despite earlier rumours that it might lean into the RPG systems seen in titles like Valhalla and Shadows, Ubisoft was direct in the preview session:

“This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG.” — Ubisoft, April 16, 2026 presentation to media

The remake is reported to run on the same technical engine used for Assassin’s Creed Shadows — Ubisoft’s current AnvilNext implementation — bringing with it modern lighting, physics, and sea simulation. Ubisoft+ Premium subscribers will be able to play it from day one at no extra cost, as confirmed when the title’s page briefly appeared on the Ubisoft Connect PC launcher on April 16.

Reports also indicate the modern-day Abstergo Entertainment storyline from the original has been removed, leaving players with an uninterrupted Edward Kenway pirate experience from start to finish. Everything You Need to Know

Yes. In March 2026, Ubisoft’s Jean Guesdon published a franchise update on Ubisoft’s website that included official concept art for Black Flag Resynced. The title itself had previously appeared via a PEGI ratings listing in December 2025. The July 9, 2026 release date was reported by Insider Gaming based on the April 16 media presentation, but has not been officially confirmed by Ubisoft as of April 17, 2026.
Platforms have not been officially announced. The Ubisoft Connect page that briefly appeared confirmed Ubisoft+ Premium day-one access on PC. Previous Assassin’s Creed games have released on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. No Switch 2 or other platform has been confirmed.
No, per the April 16 presentation. Ubisoft stated clearly: “This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG.” Earlier rumours had suggested the game might include RPG elements; those appear to have been walked back in development. Combat is reportedly modernised — closer to Assassin’s Creed Shadows — but the overall structure stays true to the original’s character-driven format.
According to the media presentation, the game has been “completely reworked” with new content and updates. Reports indicate the modern-day Abstergo Entertainment sections have been removed in favour of an extended Edward Kenway pirate storyline. The game is reportedly built on the same engine as Assassin’s Creed Shadows, bringing modern visuals and physics. A Kenway collector statue is also reportedly in the works. Full gameplay details will be released in Ubisoft’s upcoming public announcement.
Ubisoft Singapore — the studio that developed Skull and Bones — has been widely reported to be leading development. Jean Guesdon, who served as creative director on the original Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Origins, is now Ubisoft’s Head of Content for the franchise and is involved in overseeing the project. Matt Ryan, who voiced Edward Kenway in the original game, teased the remake to fans at a 2025 convention appearance.

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced was covered here based on the April 16, 2026 media presentation and a series of confirmed leaks — from the December 2025 PEGI listing to the brief Ubisoft Connect page appearance the same day as the press preview. The game’s reported July 9, 2026 date, its confirmed character-driven structure, and its Ubisoft+ Premium day-one access were all covered in this piece.
