Nintendo Direct: Everything Announced

Releasing April 1, 2026
Nintendo and Illumination released a new trailer during a Nintendo Direct this weekend, featuring beloved characters making their big screen debut in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Hosted by legendary Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, the presentation included new footage of Yoshi, Birdo, classic power-ups, and references from across the Super Mario franchise. The movie moved its release date two days earlier to Wednesday, April 1, 2026, aligning with international releases.
🦖

Yoshi Revealed!

The trailer shows Mario and Luigi discovering Yoshi inside a blocked Warp Pipe in the Sand Kingdom from Super Mario Odyssey. The dinosaur appears initially fearful of the brothers, though later footage shows Yoshi becoming part of the team.

💬 Yoshi can speak, able to mumble a few words and call out his own name. The voice actor has not been announced.
🎀

Birdo & Mouser

Princess Peach battles Birdo, who fires eggs while Peach uses her parasol as a shield. The trailer also features Mouser, a character from Super Mario Bros. 2, appearing briefly in the same sequence.

🎮 Both characters appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2, set in the world of Subcon. The casino setting suggests a dedicated sequence for Peach.
🐸

Frog Luigi

Luigi wears the Frog Suit Power-Up and saves Blue Toad from Boss Bass, one of the water-dwelling enemies from the Mario games. The sequence demonstrates the suit’s swimming and jumping capabilities.

🏊 The Frog Suit gets action-packed screen time, showing Luigi putting the underwater power-up to heroic use.
🔥

Fire Flower Power

Both Mario and Luigi power up with Fire Flowers, wearing their white caps and undershirts. They use fireballs as light sources while exploring underground pipes, with Luigi also using them against unseen threats.

💥 The Fire Flower gets extended usage in the sequel, with both brothers wielding the iconic power-up.
👶

Baby Mario & Luigi

The trailer ends with Yoshi holding a gun resembling the SNES Super Scope, while Toad holds Baby Luigi and Baby Mario. The group faces a T-Rex similar to those in Super Mario Odyssey.

🍼 Baby Mario and Luigi previously appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. The scene’s context remains unclear from the trailer.
🎬

Voice Cast

Chris Pratt voices Mario, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek), Brie Larson (Rosalina), and Benny Safdie (Bowser Jr.).

🎤 Rosalina and Bowser Jr. do not appear in this trailer, following their reveal in the November 2025 Nintendo Direct.
