Gears of War Debuts on PS5 with 120 FPS and Cross-Platform Play

The iconic Gears of War franchise breaks new ground today as Gears of War: Reloaded launches on PlayStation 5. This marks the first time the series has appeared on a Sony console since its debut in 2006. Released simultaneously across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the game unlocks globally at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET on August 26, 2025.

Priced at $39.99, this remastered version brings enhanced visuals and modern features to the game that pioneered cover-based shooting. The release includes all content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, delivering “the most complete version of the original game to date” with a bonus campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and classic characters.

PlayStation 5 owners get unique features including DualSense controller support. The PS5 version takes advantage of haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and controller speaker integration. PS5 Pro owners will benefit from PlayStation Super Spectral Resolution support with improved shadow and reflection quality.

The technical upgrades are substantial across all platforms. The remaster runs at 4K resolution with the campaign at 60 frames per second and multiplayer reaching up to 120 FPS. The visual and audio improvements include high-resolution textures, enhanced shadows and reflections, HDR, Dolby Vision.

The once-exclusive Xbox franchise joining PlayStation’s library represents a significant shift in the gaming landscape, with many media outlets and fans noting that “the console wars are over.”

File sizes vary by platform, with the game taking up approximately 68.75 GB on Xbox Series X, 63.1 GB on PS5, and 70 GB on Steam. Players can preload now to jump in immediately when servers go live.
