Marvel’s Deadpool is jumping into virtual reality later this year, but with a surprising voice behind the mask. Neil Patrick Harris, not Ryan Reynolds, will voice the Merc with a Mouth in “Marvel’s Deadpool VR,” an exclusive game for Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets.

The game was unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025 on June 6, developed by Twisted Pixel and Oculus Studios in partnership with Marvel Games. It features an original story where Deadpool gets transported to Mojoworld after signing a questionable contract, promising players a chance to battle across various Marvel Universe locations.

Game Director Dan Bullock from Twisted Pixel noted, “It’s been a hot minute since Deadpool has been featured in his own game, so we’re ecstatic to announce that we’ve been hard at work on getting him a breakout role.”

The choice of Harris over Reynolds, who has become synonymous with the character through the popular film series, has sparked discussion among fans. While no official reason was given for Reynolds’ absence, the decision allows Harris to bring his own take to the character rather than mimicking the film portrayal.

Gameplay promises to capture Deadpool’s signature chaos with a first-person VR experience. Players can engage in acrobatic parkour and creative combat, including options to “punch someone while holding a grenade” or “take your recently exploded-off arm and throw it at the bad guys,” according to the announcement.

Twisted Pixel has reportedly spent years developing the game’s combat and movement systems to properly translate Deadpool’s unique abilities into VR. The studio’s previous experience with VR titles like “Path of the Warrior” has informed their approach to making Deadpool’s fast-paced action work in virtual reality.

The game will feature numerous Marvel villains, including Lady Deathstrike, Omega Red, Mephisto, and various henchmen from organizations like Hydra and The Hand. Players will battle these enemies across multiple Marvel Universe locations.

“Marvel’s Deadpool VR” is scheduled for release in late 2025 exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and 3S devices. The game joins other superhero VR titles like “Batman: Arkham Shadow” and “Iron Man VR” in bringing popular comic book characters into virtual reality.

For Meta, securing an exclusive Deadpool game represents a significant addition to their VR content library as they continue pushing for mainstream VR adoption through recognizable franchises.

Given the character’s typically mature content, the game stays true to Deadpool’s adult-oriented humor and violence, with the announcement trailer labeled as “RED BAND” and described as “not for the faint of heart.”
