Microsoft showed off its new video games coming in 2025 during its January Xbox event, giving players a look at both new games and fresh takes on old favorites.
The biggest news was the return of Ninja Gaiden, a popular action game series that hasn’t had a new main game since 2012. The new game, Ninja Gaiden 4, brings the series into a futuristic Tokyo. Players can control two characters: a new hero named Yakumo and the series’ longtime main character Ryu Hayabusa. “This marks a new dawn for the series,” says game director Yuji Nakao, “blending tradition with cutting-edge innovation.”

Another major announcement was Doom: The Dark Ages, coming May 15. Unlike previous Doom games where players had to constantly run and shoot, this game follows a “stand and fight” approach with new tools like a shield that doubles as a saw. The game adds an interesting twist to its demon-fighting action by setting it in medieval times, complete with cybernetic dragons equipped with mounted gatling guns.
