Capcom officially unveiled Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth major installment in their survival horror franchise, as the closing announcement at Summer Game Fest 2025. Set for release on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the game promises to take the series in a bold new direction.

The reveal trailer introduced Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst investigating a case connected to her past and her mother’s murder. She becomes the new protagonist of the series, marking a fresh chapter for the franchise. The trailer shows Grace bound upside down in a dark room, with ominous scenes of familiar Raccoon City locations, including the destroyed police department.

Capcom describes Resident Evil Requiem as blending “deeply terrifying aspects of psychological horror with pulse-pounding action.” The game will feature what they call “cinematic high-stakes action,” suggesting a shift in gameplay style while maintaining the series’ horror elements.

The title “Requiem” hints at themes of finality, potentially serving as both a conclusion to current storylines and a starting point for the franchise’s future. This aligns with earlier rumors that suggested the game would be a “conclusion” while also setting up “new beginnings.”

Powered by Capcom’s RE Engine, the game promises “spine-chilling realism” with detailed character models featuring “lifelike facial expressions, realistic skin textures, and even high-fidelity sweat droplets.” This suggests a significant visual upgrade from previous entries.
