Gaming fans got their hopes up last week when Rob Wiethoff, the voice actor for John Marston in Red Dead Redemption, teased “exciting news” he couldn’t share yet. What followed was a brief frenzy of speculation about possible new games or updates – until Wiethoff clarified his announcement had nothing to do with Rockstar Games.

The actual news? A cast reunion at the National Gaming Expo in Tampa, Florida, scheduled for August 8-10, 2025.

“I do not make announcements for Rockstar Games. Rockstar Games makes announcements for Rockstar Games,” Wiethoff stated firmly in a follow-up video, attempting to temper fan expectations after his initial tease went viral.

The misunderstanding gained momentum when other Red Dead Redemption voice actors, including Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan) and Noshir Dalal (Charles Smith), hinted they knew about the upcoming announcement. When a fan asked Clark if he knew about Wiethoff’s news, he simply replied “yes” with a smirking dog GIF, further fueling speculation.

Despite the clarification, rumors about Red Dead Redemption’s future continue to circulate. Gaming outlets like GameReactor and Nintenduo cite “sources close to Rockstar” claiming a next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2 is in development for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, potentially releasing by the end of 2025. These reports suggest the update might include a Nintendo Switch 2 port alongside enhanced resolution and framerate improvements.

Meanwhile, concrete news about the franchise does exist. Rockstar officially confirmed a PC port of the original Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare expansion, launching October 29, 2024. This long-awaited version will support 4K resolution, refresh rates up to 144Hz, ultrawide monitor compatibility, and mod support.

As for Red Dead Redemption 3, Roger Clark has previously stated he’s “certain we will see RDR3 one day,” though he doesn’t expect Arthur Morgan to return as a protagonist. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has indicated Rockstar will continue successful franchises as long as consumer demand exists.

However, with Rockstar’s current development focus firmly on Grand Theft Auto 6 (expected in May 2026), a new Red Dead title seems unlikely in the near future.

The voice actor mix-up highlights how easily gaming rumors spread in today’s social media environment. While fans may feel disappointed the announcement wasn’t game-related, the cast reunion offers an opportunity for Red Dead enthusiasts to meet the actors behind their favorite characters.

Rockstar Games, following their typical approach, has remained silent throughout the speculation, maintaining their strategy of only making announcements on their own terms and timeline.
