Japan Finally Gets the Horizon Treatment

Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan — and Playground Games went all the way. From Tokyo’s elevated expressways to snowcapped alpine passes, the sixth entry in the franchise packs the largest, most vertical map the Horizon series has ever built. Tokyo City alone is five times bigger than any urban area in a previous Horizon game.

Developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios, Forza Horizon 6 arrives on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, with a PlayStation 5 release to follow later in the year. Premium Edition players get in four days early on May 15. Pre-ordering any edition before launch locks in an exclusive, pre-tuned Ferrari J50 — a real-world car of which only 10 were ever built, originally produced by Ferrari to mark 50 years of the brand in Japan.

The full map was revealed on April 8, 2026. Below is everything confirmed so far — region by region, car roster, edition details, and all key dates — in one place. If you are tracking other major 2026 releases, check our coverage of the GTA 6 release date and confirmed details.

Select a region to see confirmed routes, landmarks and driving types. Playground Games built the map around the feel of Japan rather than a one-to-one recreation of real roads.

Tokyo City
Tokyo is the main city hub — the most complex drivable urban space the Horizon franchise has ever put together. Multiple districts span from elevated expressways and neon-lit downtown streets through quieter suburban zones to industrial dock areas. The layout captures how real Tokyo transitions from outer freeways through the suburbs into the dense downtown core, with the Shuto Expressway threading through the skyline.
  • 5× larger than any previous Horizon urban area
  • Routes inspired by the real C1 Loop and Ginkgo Avenue
  • Shibuya Crossing and Daikoku Parking Area recreated
  • Elevated Shuto Expressway visible across the skyline
  • Docks, industrial zones and Tokyo harbour drivable
  • Street races, drift zones and car meets across all districts
Japanese Alps
The northern section of the map is dominated by snowy mountain terrain. Ski runs, off-road trails and high-altitude passes are all confirmed. Routes draw on real-world inspirations including Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma. The Estate — a customisable mountainside property unlocked during progression — sits in this region. The game’s opening experience races players against the Shinkansen (bullet train) through the Alps.
  • Snowy ski runs and off-road mountain trails
  • Routes inspired by Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma
  • Ideal terrain for trucks and off-road builds
  • Dynamic seasonal conditions that affect driving physics
  • The Estate — open-world customisable valley property — here
  • Opening sequence: race the Shinkansen through the Alps
Countryside & Touge Roads
Rural zones between Tokyo and the mountains are packed with tight touge roads, traditional towns and forest-lined passes. A spiral bridge drift zone lets drivers hold a single continuous drift well past 360 degrees through one sweeping corner. The Hakone Turnpike is recreated with its famous tight hairpin section intact, above wider high-speed switchbacks.
  • Touge battle routes through forest mountain passes
  • Spiral bridge drift zone — one corner, past 360 degrees
  • Hakone Turnpike recreation with tight hairpin section
  • Traditional shrines, rice paddies and rural towns
  • Seasonal cherry blossom and autumn leaf canopies on roads
  • Narrow lane roads giving way to wider arterial roads
Coastal Routes
Coastal sections add another layer to the open world with beach-side race courses, harbour roads and seaside scenery. The map’s vertical terrain means coastal routes offer panoramic views back toward the city or across open water — natural spots for the Collection Journal photography system introduced in Forza Horizon 6.
  • Beach off-road event courses confirmed in previews
  • Harbour and dockside roads connecting to Tokyo waterfront
  • Panoramic viewpoints for in-game photography stamps
  • Seasonal rain and coastal wind effects on handling
  • Mix of tarmac and gravel surface types
Closed-Circuit Tracks
Purpose-built and semi-fictional closed-circuit venues are distributed across the map. Preview builds confirmed a track drawing from the Ebisu Circuit — a venue made famous by decades of motorsport and drifting — plus a dedicated rallycross facility with multiple configurable layouts, where the GR Yaris in rally spec was playable during press previews.
  • Ebisu Circuit-inspired track — globally known drift venue
  • Purpose-built rallycross track with multiple layouts
  • Spec Racing Championships use closed-circuit venues
  • Time Attack Circuits and Drag Meets hosted here
  • CoLab EventLab allows custom event building anywhere in world
