What Is Monster Hunter Outlanders?

Monster Hunter Outlanders is an open-world survival game developed by TiMi Studio Group — a subsidiary of Tencent Games — in partnership with Capcom. The game is set on a mysterious island called Aesoland and supports up to four players hunting together in co-op. It keeps the core Monster Hunter loop — accepting quests, hunting large monsters, and crafting new equipment — while adapting the experience for mobile devices.

Players take on the role of an Adventurer. They can build a custom Fated Adventurer or play as one of the story Adventurers they encounter in the game, each with unique weapons and skills. Unlike earlier Monster Hunter mobile titles that focused on simplified or companion-style mechanics, Outlanders targets a full, open-world hunting experience playable on smartphones.

“It’s time for mobile players to fully enjoy what makes Monster Hunter one of the most beloved franchises in gaming.” — Dong Huang, Producer, TiMi Studio Group (official press release, November 2024)

The game was first announced at G-STAR 2024 in November. The first closed beta (CBT1) ran from November 27 to December 4, 2025, restricted to Japan, Canada, and the United States. CBT2 is the next testing phase, with broader language support and expanded content. No official global release date has been confirmed as of this report.

What’s New in CBT2

The second closed beta introduces a range of content not present in the first test. The official press release from TiMi Studio Group confirms the following additions. Tap each item to read the details.

CBT2 introduces a completely new set of playable Adventurer characters. Each brings distinct skills and combat styles to the hunting field. Players can choose these new characters or continue building a custom Fated Adventurer. The official press release describes them as “brand new Adventurers” — specific names and weapon types for CBT2 have not yet been disclosed by the developers.
New biomes are added in this build, described in official materials as ranging from “soaring peaks to vast, luminous caverns.” These new areas connect to the existing world of Aesoland and are designed to reward exploration with hidden resources, secrets, and environmental hazards at every turn.
The ecosystems of Aesoland are evolving in CBT2. The build adds never-before-seen Radiant Species — a category of creature tied to the island’s environment — alongside a broader roster of fiercer standard monsters. One Radiant Species (Radiant Rathalos) was confirmed in earlier materials. The official CBT2 announcement teases “a mysterious silhouette” as a creature yet to be revealed.
Beyond hunting, CBT2 brings back classic expedition elements — including the fan-favourite BBQ gameplay, described by TiMi in the official press release as “perfectly complementing your grand adventures.” These downtime activities are modelled on elements from earlier Monster Hunter titles.
