Dark Horse Comics and CD PROJEKT RED have announced a new horror-themed comic series set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. The four-issue limited series titled “Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome” will introduce the first slasher story to Night City, expanding the world of the popular video game.

The first issue will arrive in comic shops on January 14, 2026, with a price tag of $4.99. Pre-orders begin this Friday at local comic book stores. Some gaming outlets incorrectly reported a January 16 release date, but the publisher’s official announcement confirms the January 14 date.

The creative team features writer Doug Wagner (known for “Plastic” and “Plush”), artist Tommaso Bennato (who previously worked on “Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher: The Edge of the World”), colorist Rico Renzi (“Plush” and “Sea of Stars”), and letterer Frank Cvetkovic (who has worked on previous Cyberpunk 2077 comics like “Psycho Squad”).

The story follows a diverse group of Night City residents who venture into dangerous territory. “A group of friends including a netrunner, a fire graffiti artist, an aspiring rockerboy, and an autotechie set off for a fun photoshoot at a landfill, where among heaps of rubbish, scrap, and metal, they’ll find a shot to die for! Rumor has it the place is haunted, and they’re about to find out that in Night City, there are things far more frightening than ghosts.”

The series will feature multiple cover variants. The main cover is by series artist Tommaso Bennato, with variant covers by Francesco Francavilla, Márk László, and Arief Rachmad.

Milena Zając, Editor/Writer and Franchise Creative at CD PROJEKT RED, emphasized the importance of horror in the Cyberpunk universe: “Cyberpunk 2077 is many things, but it wouldn’t be the same if not for the horror element. Inviting Doug Wagner for the very first slasher story told in Night City is an ideal collaboration, and having Tommaso Bennato and Rico Renzi on board really made this comic shine with chrome, gore, and dark humor!”

Wagner expressed his excitement about the project: “I’ve always been a massive Cyberpunk fan. And getting to dive into Cyberpunk 2077 with Tommaso, Rico, and Frank while being allowed to unleash my twisted, quirky sense of horror to it all is a dream come true. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve got in store.”

There are conflicting reports about how this series fits into the existing Cyberpunk comic lineup. Some outlets claim it will be the 13th limited series in the franchise, while the Cyberpunk Wiki lists it as the sixth comic book series set in the Cyberpunk 2077 world. Regardless of the numbering, fans of the franchise have another reason to return to Night City’s dangerous streets early next year.

For those new to the Cyberpunk comics, the previous series “Cyberpunk 2077: XOXO” followed a conflict between two gangs with “Shakespearean romance” elements. The new Chrome series represents a significant departure by focusing on horror and slasher elements rather than the typical cyberpunk themes.
