The biggest challenge ever faced by Pokémon GO Trainers arrives this weekend. Eternamax Eternatus will make its debut during the GO Fest 2025: Max Finale event on August 23-24, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time.
The event introduces a major battle update – up to 100 Trainers can now join the same Gigantamax or Eternamax battle, split into groups of four or fewer. This feature will remain permanent worldwide even after the event ends, completely changing how players approach Max Battles.
Unlike regular encounters, Eternamax Eternatus cannot be caught after defeating it in Max Battles. Instead, players earn large amounts of Eternatus Candy and Candy XL to power up the regular Eternatus obtained through the GO Pass: Max Finale. Pokémon.com notes that Eternatus requires “much more Candy” than other Pokémon to power up.
The free GO Pass: Max Finale unlocks automatically on Monday, August 18 at 10:00 a.m. local time. Players can complete Pass Tasks to earn rewards including an Eternatus encounter, Dynamax encounters, Candy, and Max Particles. A paid Deluxe upgrade offers additional Max Particles, more Candy/Candy XL, and increased chances of encountering Shiny Dynamax Pokémon.
During the Finale, the daily points cap on the GO Pass will be removed, with each Eternatus victory yielding 100 points – allowing players to progress rapidly. The Max Particles daily cap will increase to 3,200 during the event, up from the standard 1,500.
