Microsoft has revealed the first wave of Xbox Game Pass additions for August 2025, featuring Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the return of cooperative shooter Aliens: Fireteam Elite among several other titles across different subscription tiers.

The August lineup kicks off on August 5 with Rain World, a challenging survival platformer where players control a “nomadic slugcat.” The game will be available across all subscription tiers – Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Standard.

August 6 brings four titles to Game Pass Standard subscribers: the dice-based RPG Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, winter sports game Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders, MechWarrior 5: Clans, and tower defense game Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap. These games were previously available only to Ultimate and PC Game Pass members.

The headliner arrives August 7 with Assassin’s Creed Mirage joining Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. This Baghdad-based entry returns the franchise to its city-set roots, featuring street thief Basim. Ultimate subscribers will also gain 10-hour early access to EA Sports Madden NFL 26 on the same day.

On August 12, Aliens: Fireteam Elite makes its return to the service across all tiers after previously rotating out. The cooperative shooter’s arrival coincides with the debut of the new TV series Alien: Earth on FX and Hulu.

Rounding out the wave, August 14 brings roguelike kingdom builder 9 Kings in Game Preview form to PC Game Pass and Ultimate subscribers.

As with every update cycle, three titles will leave the service on August 15: Anthem, Farming Simulator 22, and Persona 3 Reload. Subscribers can purchase these games at a 20% discount before they depart.

Xbox Game Pass has continued strong growth in 2025, reaching approximately 37 million subscribers in Q1 according to industry reports. This represents significant growth from the 34 million reported in early 2024. The service set a quarterly revenue record in Q2 2025, with PC Game Pass specifically seeing 30% subscriber growth.

The subscription service remains a cornerstone of Microsoft’s gaming strategy even as the company recently increased prices across its hardware lineup. Game Pass Ultimate currently costs $19.99 monthly, Standard is $14.99, and PC Game Pass is $11.99, following price adjustments made in 2024.

While August’s first wave might seem lighter than previous months, the diverse lineup offers something for various gaming preferences, from the tighter Assassin’s Creed experience to cooperative alien shooting and indie adventures.
