Hideo Kojima finally lifted the curtain on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach at SXSW 2025, confirming a June 26, 2025 release date exclusively for PlayStation 5. Pre-orders open March 17, giving fans three months to secure their copy before launch.

The game comes in three editions:
- Standard Edition: $69.99/€79.99/¥8,980
- Digital Deluxe Edition: $79.99/€89.99/¥9,980 (includes 48-hour early access and in-game items)
- Collector’s Edition: $229.99/€249.99/¥31,980 (includes a 15-inch Magellan Man statue, 3-inch Dollman figurine, art cards, and a letter from Kojima)
Pre-order bonuses include the Quokka Hologram and Silver variants of the Battle, Boost, and Bokka Skeletons.

Snake, Is That You?
The 10-minute trailer showed off a character named Neil, played by Italian actor Luca Marinelli, who bears a striking resemblance to Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. This connection isn’t accidental—Kojima previously commented on Instagram about Marinelli: “I think if he donned a bandanna, he’d be a spitting image of Solid Snake!”
The Metal Gear references continue with the Magellan Man, a tar-covered mech-like creature that resembles Metal Gear Rex. Players will apparently control this creation in combat against massive tar monsters.

Alongside the game reveal, Kojima Productions announced “The Strands of Harmony” concert series, which will showcase the music of Death Stranding with a full orchestra. The tour begins November 8, 2025—the sixth anniversary of the original game’s release—at the Sydney Opera House, followed by performances in 18 other cities worldwide.

Busy Times for Kojima
Beyond Death Stranding 2, Kojima Productions is working on multiple projects:
- A live-action Death Stranding film with A24 (the studio behind “Everything Everywhere All At Once”)
- OD for Xbox Game Studios
- Physint, a video game/movie hybrid for Sony
However, the ongoing video game actors’ strike has affected production on both OD and Physint, potentially delaying further announcements.
