Blizzard Entertainment announced major changes to its hero shooter, officially dropping the “2” from Overwatch 2 and returning to simply “Overwatch” starting February 10, 2026. The company revealed plans to release 10 new heroes throughout 2026, with five launching immediately in Season 1. This represents the largest single hero drop since the game’s original 2016 launch.
The rebrand coincides with a year-long narrative arc called The Reign of Talon, spanning six seasons before a new story begins in 2027. Game Director Aaron Keller stated the team wants to “take players on a journey over the course of this year and over the course of many years.” The update includes new sub-roles with specialized passive abilities, a complete UI refresh, and the return of post-match accolades later in 2026.
