Build A Rocket Boy’s upcoming action game MindsEye arrives on June 10, 2025, carrying both promise and skepticism from the gaming community. The single-player thriller, priced at $59.99, marks the return of Leslie Benzies, the former Rockstar North president who helped create Grand Theft Auto games from GTA 3 through GTA V.

The game puts players in control of Jacob Diaz, a former soldier with memory gaps caused by a neural implant. Set in the fictional city of Redrock, the story follows Jacob as he uncovers a conspiracy involving artificial intelligence, corporate corruption, and military abuse. Alex Hernandez, known for playing Lincoln Clay in Mafia III, voices the main character.

MindsEye runs on Unreal Engine 5 but has drawn comparisons to older PlayStation 3 games in terms of visual style. This aesthetic choice appears deliberate, focusing on cinematic storytelling rather than massive open worlds filled with side activities. The game emphasizes linear mission structure similar to earlier Mafia titles or L.A. Noire.

Combat combines third-person shooting with high-speed vehicle chases. Jacob’s neural implant provides enhanced vision, hacking abilities, and control over a companion drone. The open world serves mainly as a backdrop for story missions rather than an interactive playground.

Price Point and Content Strategy

The $59.99 standard edition costs less than many new AAA games, which typically retail for $70-$80. A Deluxe Edition includes additional content like the “Exotic Pack” and extra missions. Pre-ordering the standard version automatically upgrades buyers to the deluxe edition at no extra cost.

Build A Rocket Boy plans monthly content releases including new missions, challenges, and game assets. The company promises decades of support through both developer-created content and community contributions. The 2025 roadmap includes community updates and new missions in summer, single-player modes and multiplayer additions in fall, and free roam updates plus new missions in winter.

Game Creation Tools Draw Attention

MindsEye’s standout feature is its Game Creation System, available on PC at launch. This tool lets players build custom missions and scenarios using all game assets. The system aims to make game development accessible to players regardless of technical skill level.

The creation tools connect to Build A Rocket Boy’s broader “Everywhere” platform, a user-generated content ecosystem still in development. Assets from MindsEye could potentially be used within this larger metaverse-like environment, though the success depends on Everywhere’s eventual launch and adoption.

Technical Requirements and Performance Concerns

PC players need substantial hardware to run MindsEye smoothly. Minimum requirements include an Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor, 16 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or AMD RX 5600 XT graphics card with 6GB VRAM. The game requires 70 GB of SSD storage space.

Recommended specifications jump to an Intel Core i7-13700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor with an RTX 4070 or RX 6800 XT graphics card containing 8GB VRAM. All versions need Windows 10 or 11 with DirectX 12 support.

Early gameplay footage has raised concerns about visual polish and frame rates, particularly in driving sequences. Some community members describe the graphics as “janky” with “sludgy frame rates” on PC, though optimizations may arrive before launch.

Community Skepticism Emerges

Online discussions reveal mixed reactions to MindsEye’s marketing and early footage. While Leslie Benzies’ involvement generates interest due to his GTA legacy, some players question whether the ambitious content promises can be fulfilled long-term.

Negative employee reviews on Glassdoor have surfaced, citing management issues and burnout at Build A Rocket Boy. These reports raise questions about the studio’s internal stability and ability to maintain decades of content support.

The game’s visual quality, especially shadow rendering and car physics, doesn’t meet some players’ expectations for current-generation hardware. Comparisons to older console games, while potentially intentional, may hurt perception among graphics-focused gamers.

Market Competition and Timing

MindsEye faces significant competition launching in 2025, the same year Grand Theft Auto VI is widely anticipated though without a confirmed release date. Any “GTA-like” game faces an uphill battle against Rockstar’s flagship franchise.

The game’s linear story focus and creation tools serve as key differentiators from traditional open-world crime games. IOI Partners, the publishing arm of Hitman developer IO Interactive, handles MindsEye’s distribution and marketing.

At launch, MindsEye includes the main story campaign, free roam mode, horde missions, combat challenges, and various race types. Premium pass holders receive additional horde content and cosmetic items.

The game represents Build A Rocket Boy’s first major release after years of development on both MindsEye and the Everywhere platform. Success or failure could determine the studio’s future and its ability to realize the ambitious vision of democratizing game development through accessible creation tools.
