Fortnite’s latest update lets players control a massive Super Star Destroyer, bringing one of Star Wars’ most iconic weapons to the popular battle royale game. This addition is part of the ongoing “Galactic Battle” season that began on May 2, 2025, and will run until June 7.

The Super Star Destroyer feature, added on May 29, allows players to temporarily command the powerful ship’s weapons during matches. Around five minutes into a Battle Royale game, players hear a siren and see an on-screen message announcing “Star Destroyer Portal is Open!” A special icon appears on the map showing where to find the portal.

The first player or team to reach and enter this portal gains control of the Star Destroyer’s weapons for about 90 seconds. From high above the island, players can fire the ship’s turbolaser cannon with unlimited ammunition, dealing heavy damage to opponents below.

“The weapon deals 73 splash damage and 120 on direct hits,” with enemies marked by red triangles to make targeting easier. Players can fire once per second and zoom in for better accuracy.

The Star Destroyer’s power changes depending on team size. In solo mode, each hit deals 90 damage, while in squads, the damage drops to 36 per hit. This balancing ensures the feature remains powerful without becoming unfair in team games.

Beyond this new feature, the “Galactic Battle” season has transformed Fortnite with Star Wars content. Players can use Force abilities like Force Lightning and Force Push, wield lightsabers, pilot X-Wings and TIE Fighters, and play as famous characters including Emperor Palpatine, Mace Windu, and a controversial Darth Jar Jar.

The season is Epic Games’ most extensive Star Wars collaboration yet. It even featured the premiere of the first two episodes of “Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld” on May 2, days before the show debuted on Disney+ on May 4, marking the first time a Disney+ series premiered inside a video game.

Players can also link their Epic Games and MyDisney accounts to unlock a free First Order Stormtrooper outfit and potentially earn more rewards in the future.

The Star Wars content has received mixed reactions. Many casual players enjoy the themed items and abilities, but some competitive players have expressed concerns about game balance. The season will conclude with a “Death Star Sabotage” live event on June 7.

With approximately 650 million registered players and projected revenues around $5 billion in 2025, Fortnite continues to expand beyond traditional gaming experiences by blending interactive entertainment with major media franchises.
