Rebel Wolves, a studio formed by former CD Projekt Red developers, has revealed their debut title “The Blood of Dawnwalker” through a cinematic trailer released on January 13, 2025. The game marks the first chapter in a planned dark fantasy RPG series, developed under the leadership of Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, former game director of The Witcher 3.
Set in 14th century Europe during the Black Death, players control Coen, a half-human, half-vampire hybrid known as a Dawnwalker. The game introduces a day-night cycle gameplay mechanic where players must balance human combat abilities during daylight hours with vampiric powers at night.
The development team includes notable industry veterans: narrative director Jakub Szamałek, design director Daniel Sadowski, animation director Tamara Zawada, art director Bartłomiej Gaweł, and studio head Robert Murzynowski. Their collective experience spans work on The Witcher series, Cyberpunk 2077, Thronebreaker, and Shadow Warrior 2.
According to Tomaszkiewicz, the game won’t be as large as The Witcher but may feature more quests. The narrative adopts a sandbox approach. The game emphasizes the urgency of time as players race to save Coen’s family, though specific time constraints haven’t been revealed.
