CD Projekt RED is adding a new chapter to the Cyberpunk 2077 universe despite earlier statements about ending support for the game. The studio recently announced “Cyberpunk Legends: Into The Night,” a cooperative card game developed in partnership with Virtuous.

The new card game promises a quick learning curve of just five minutes while offering hours of gameplay. According to the official description, players can expect “No prep, no DM, just pure dystopian strategy.” The game features a narrative-driven experience where players can meet iconic characters from the video game, including Johnny Silverhand.

“Cyberpunk Legends is a strategic sci-fi story-driven card game that throws you into a world of chrome, code, and consequences,” reads the official announcement. “Experience exciting cooperative RPG-like gameplay with a pulse-pounding narrative, anywhere you want.”

While no release date has been announced, pre-orders are already open on the official website. Early buyers will receive an exclusive Johnny Silverhand card as a bonus. Each deck in the game will feature its own story that connects to a larger narrative campaign.

This announcement comes after CD Projekt RED previously stated in 2024 that it would no longer support Cyberpunk 2077. However, the game has since received a major update with another one scheduled for release on June 26, 2025.

The expansion into card games follows CD Projekt RED’s broader strategy of growing the Cyberpunk brand. The studio is also working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 (codenamed “Project Orion”) and a live-action adaptation in collaboration with Anonymous Content, the production company behind “True Detective.”

The original Cyberpunk 2077 game has seen a remarkable turnaround since its troubled launch in December 2020. The release of the Phantom Liberty expansion in September 2023 was widely praised and sold three million copies in just ten days. Most recently, an Ultimate Edition of the game was released for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.

CD Projekt RED’s approach to mature themes in games like Cyberpunk 2077 has been intentional rather than for shock value. Senior quest designer Philipp Weber explained, “We do heavy things if we have something meaningful to say, and then we also dare to go there.”

The announcement of “Cyberpunk Legends: Into The Night” shows that despite shifting focus to new projects, CD Projekt RED continues to expand the Cyberpunk universe beyond the original game.
