Day One Patch and Performance
Gearbox development chief Randy Pitchford addressed concerns about the game’s pre-release performance on PC, confirming a Day 1 patch is coming that “does a lot” to improve the experience.
“This week Gearbox development chief Randy Pitchford said the inbound Borderlands 4 Day 1 patch ‘does a lot,’ amid concern about the performance of the looter shooter,” according to reports.
What’s New in Borderlands 4
The new game takes place on a planet called Kairos and features an antagonist known as “The Timekeeper.” Players can choose from four new Vault Hunters that have been reported as:
- Vex (Siren)
- Rafa (Exo-Soldier)
- Harlowe (Gravitar)
- Amon (Forgeknight)
While previous Borderlands games, especially Borderlands 3, were known for their comedic approach and sometimes over-the-top humor, Borderlands 4 promises a “more grounded” story and tone. This represents a shift in direction for the popular looter-shooter series, which has always balanced intense action with humor.
The last major entry in the series, Borderlands 3, was released nearly six years ago. The franchise has built its reputation on offering “gazillions of the weirdest weapons,” intense co-op action, and a unique visual style that stands out from other first-person shooters.
For players looking to maximize their experience, the Day 1 patch appears to be important given Pitchford’s comments about its significance for performance.
With its September release date approaching quickly, Borderlands fans will soon be able to judge for themselves whether the more serious tone and new setting deliver a worthy addition to the popular franchise.
