The second weekend of Battlefield 6’s open beta has arrived with several key improvements addressing player concerns from the first test. Starting today, August 14, and running until Sunday, August 17, players can experience new maps, modes, and quality-of-life features that offer a glimpse of what’s to come in the full release on October 10.
The Battlefield 6 open beta returns today for its second weekend with significant new features addressing player feedback, including a new map and game modes.
Starting August 14 and running through August 17, Weekend 2 brings all maps from the first beta plus the new infantry-focused Empire State map set in Brooklyn, New York. Players will battle through city streets, rooftops, and alleys in close-quarter combat without vehicles.
The fan-favorite Rush mode makes its return after being absent from Weekend 1. In this 12v12 mode, attackers must plant explosives at M-COM stations while defenders try to stop them. Squad Deathmatch is also being added, offering fast-paced team combat focused purely on eliminations.
Addressing player concerns about map and mode selection, EA is introducing Custom Search – a new feature allowing players to choose preferred map and mode combinations. While not a full server browser (which EA notes “is not being tested this week”), this feature will prioritize matching players with their selected preferences.

“During Week 2, we’re delivering more variety and choice for how you’d like to play with more playlists rotating between multiple different game modes,” EA explained in its official blog post. The company emphasized that these rotations help them “understand what our community enjoys as we shape the launch experience.”
The beta’s playlist options will change daily, with different combinations available throughout the weekend. The starting features Conquest, Rush, and Attack & Defend playlists, while in the other days of first week features expanded to include Squad Deathmatch and All-Out Warfare options.
Technical issues hampered the launch of Weekend 2, with EA confirming problems with DLSS/DLAA features missing on PC and matchmaking difficulties for some players. “The team is aware of ongoing matchmaking issues for some of our players,” Battlefield Communications stated on social media, suggesting players ensure they have the most recent client update.
Weekend 2 also includes new challenges with rewards that will carry over to the full game release on October 10. The first beta weekend was enormously successful, with over 500,000 concurrent players on Steam alone – breaking Call of Duty’s previous record.
With significant interest in this latest entry, EA appears focused on addressing player feedback before launch, particularly regarding matchmaking improvements and quality-of-life features like Custom Search, which could help determine whether a full server browser appears in the final release.
