Peter Parker and Miles Morales have swung onto PC, but their landing isn’t as smooth as fans hoped. Spider-Man 2, which hit Steam and Epic Games Store on January 30, is having trouble keeping its footing.

The game’s Steam reviews tell the story – only 55 out of 100 players give it a thumbs up. Compare this to the first Spider-Man game on PC, which got a massive 96 out of 100 positive reviews in its lifetime. What changed?

The biggest problem? The game keeps crashing. Even players with high-end graphics cards like the RTX 4090 can’t play without issues. The game’s graphics controller crashes frequently, causing major disruptions in gameplay.

“The game crashes to desktop every five minutes,” said one Steam user. Others report the game running with severe performance problems, including seconds-per-frame rates in some cutscenes, sound getting out of sync, missing textures in scenes, and lighting not loading properly.

Nixxes Software, the team that brought the game to PC, has acknowledged these issues. They’re actively working on solutions and have published troubleshooting guides on their support website. They’ve asked players to send in logs and crash dumps to help identify and fix the problems.

The rocky launch has affected player numbers significantly. While the first Spider-Man game had 66,000 concurrent players, Spider-Man 2 only managed 19,000 – a dramatic drop in player numbers that shows how these technical issues are affecting the game’s success.

For now, players can try some quick fixes recommended by Nixxes:

  • Lower graphics settings as mentioned in their troubleshooting guide
  • Disable features like DLSS and ray tracing
  • Follow the detailed troubleshooting guides on Nixxes Support website

Players have two editions available:

  1. Standard Edition: The base game
  2. Digital Deluxe Edition: Includes:
    • Arachknight Suit (with three color variants)
    • Shadow-Spider Suit (with three color variants)
    • Web Grabber gadget early unlock
    • +3 Skill Points

The game also offers extensive technical features for PC, including:

  • Ray-traced reflections
  • Support for ultra-wide monitors up to 48:9 aspect ratios
  • NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3.1 upscaling
  • Intel XeSS upscaling support

However, reviewers currently advise waiting for stability patches before making a purchase.
