Konami’s upcoming horror game, Silent Hill f, has received an M18 rating ahead of its September 25, 2025 release. The rating warns players about strong violence, gore, and disturbing imagery that awaits them in this new chapter of the famous horror series.
Unlike previous games set in America, Silent Hill f takes place in 1960s rural Japan. Players will step into the shoes of Hinako Shimizu, a high school student trapped in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka after a strange fog covers the area and most people disappear.
The game’s mature rating comes from its graphic content. Players will see mutilated bodies, bloody environments, and fights where enemies are stabbed, slashed, and torn apart. Blood covers walls and floors during these battles. The rating also mentions disturbing scenes where characters harm themselves in ritualistic ways, including cutting off their own limbs.
Konami has put together a strong creative team for the game. Visual novel writer Ryukishi07 is crafting the story, artist kera is designing the creatures, and longtime series composer Akira Yamaoka is creating the soundtrack with Kensuke Inage.
The gameplay mixes horror elements with combat that requires good timing. Players will use everyday items like pipes, knives, and baseball bats against monsters inspired by Japanese folklore. A special “Focus” system helps players see enemy attacks coming but uses up a limited “Sanity” resource, which can be restored at shrines that also serve as save points.

Managing resources is key to survival, as weapons break down over time unless fixed with repair kits. Players will explore foggy streets, empty houses, and rice fields while solving puzzles and fighting monsters like the mannequin-like Kashimashi and scarecrow-like Ayakakashi.
Early reviews note that the game explores themes from 1960s Japan, such as rapid city growth, rural decline, and women’s rights. Hinako struggles with family expectations and constant comparisons to her “perfect” older sister, adding personal struggles to the supernatural threats.
The game will come in two versions: a Standard Edition for $59.99 and a Digital Deluxe Edition for $79.99. The Deluxe version gives players early access starting September 23, plus extras like a digital artbook, soundtrack, costume items, and bonus healing items.
Silent Hill f will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and Epic Games Store. The download size is about 36.6 GB. The game supports 4K graphics and 60 frames per second on new consoles, with an enhanced graphics mode for PS5 Pro.
For players worried about difficulty, producer Motoi Okamoto has said that while combat can be challenging, there’s a Story Mode option for those who just want to experience the narrative without frustration.
This release marks Konami’s effort to bring the series back to its Japanese horror roots, offering about 10-12 hours of single-player gameplay with no multiplayer features.
