Omnivamp Mechanic Change
Understanding the Smite & Ignite Update
Riot Games removed the interaction between Omnivamp and two Summoner Spells in League of Legends Patch 26.4. Omnivamp will no longer apply to damage dealt by Smite and Ignite. Before this patch, players who gained Omnivamp from items or runes could receive small amounts of healing when dealing damage with these spells.
Junglers use Smite to clear monster camps and secure objectives like Dragon, Grubs, Herald, and Baron. Ignite is selected by midlaners and supports for the true damage and burn effect to secure kills. The interaction created edge cases where players could use the Summoner Spells for healing to clutch out close fights.
According to Riot Games, the changes are intended to “keep things consistent and easier to follow.” Summoner Spells are not supposed to interact with other systems like Omnivamp. The change makes fights easier to read and outcomes more fair, especially in close skirmishes where knowing exactly where healing and damage come from helps in making better decisions.
How It Works Now vs. Before
Combat Scenario Breakdown
For experienced players, they will no longer be able to use Smite or Ignite in the middle of a fight to clutch out with the small heal they get from the damage done by the summoner spells. The change is less about nerfing the summoner spells and more about keeping game mechanics behaving consistently.
This change happens alongside another adjustment to Lee Sin’s W2 ability. Previously, Lee Sin’s W2 granted both Life Steal and Spell Vamp. The tooltip is being updated to better fit modern terminology by combining those effects into Omnivamp with clearer wording.
The adjustment removes minor clutch scenarios where a jungler could squeeze out unexpected sustain mid-fight. While the healing amount was small, it created edge cases.
