Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been officially unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025. This marks the first time in franchise history that two Black Ops titles will release back-to-back, following Black Ops 6 from last year.

Set in 2035, the game continues the storyline from both Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. The world stands “on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare,” according to the official announcement.

The game brings significant star power to its campaign. Milo Ventimiglia (known from “This Is Us”) will play David Mason, a returning character from Black Ops 2. Kiernan Shipka will portray Emma Kagan, the CEO of a mysterious organization called The Guild. Michael Rooker also returns to reprise his role as Mike Harper.

“David Mason is an iconic character from the franchise and one of the fan favorites,” said Tyler Bahl, Head of Activision Publishing Marketing. The character will be slightly redesigned to match Ventimiglia’s appearance.

Black Ops 7 offers several gameplay modes. Players can experience the campaign either solo or with friends through a new co-op option. The multiplayer mode will feature new maps and “near-future weaponry.” Zombies mode returns to its popular round-based format, continuing the Dark Aether storyline.

Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, explained the vision: “Our vision from the start was to create a back-to-back series experience for our players that embraced the uniqueness of the Black Ops sub-franchise.”

The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Xbox PC, Battle.net, and Steam. Notably, it will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, a significant shift in how players can access the game.

A full gameplay reveal is scheduled for “later this summer,” with the marketing approach described by Bahl as similar to a “surprise album drop,” keeping pre-release details minimal to build anticipation.

While the official announcement is recent, previous leaks had suggested several features now confirmed, including the co-op campaign and the return of round-based Zombies. Other rumored elements include an open-world map called “Avalon,” the return of advanced movement mechanics like wall-running, and a potential remake of the “Tranzit” Zombies map.

The game’s storyline will center on “psychological warfare” with David Mason and his team fighting “against a manipulative enemy who weaponizes fear above all else.”

The release window is expected to be late 2025, though no specific date has been announced.
